Brake's Two Overtime Goals Propel Marina Past Fountain Valley

Kim Brake came off the bench to score two goals in overtime to help Marina defeat Fountain Valley, 5-3, in a Sunset League girls' soccer game Thursday at Marina High.

The teams were tied, 2-2, after regulation. Brake scored 10 minutes into the extra period to put the Vikings (7-5, 1-0 in league) ahead to stay. Monique Alvino also scored twice for Marina.

Fountain Valley is 2-6-3, 0-1.

In other Sunset League games:

Los Alamitos 1, Esperanza 0--Niki Szlak scored in the 15th minute to help Los Alamitos (11-3-2, 1-0), ranked seventh in the county, defeat fifth-ranked Esperanza (10-4-3, 0-1).

Edison 3, Huntington Beach 0--Goalies Ali Nadler and Meredith Encapera combined on the shutout for Edison (7-6-1, 1-0).

In the Century League:

Canyon 1, Santa Ana Valley 0--Stacie Lopez scored 20 minutes into the game for host Canyon (6-2-2, 1-0). Heather Williams had five saves in goal for the Comanches.

El Modena 1, Orange 0--Freshman Ashley Clift, the team's leading goal-scorer, scored her eighth goal in the second half for visiting El Modena (7-6-1, 1-0).

Foothill 2, Villa Park 0--Natasha El-Jurdi and Kristi Brittingham scored for Foothill (1-0, 5-4-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 3, Santiago 1--Julie Servin, Rhiannon Lee and Nichole Dohan scored first-half goals for the visiting Argonauts (3-4-1, 1-0). Maria Salinas scored for Santiago (2-5, 1-1).

Pacifica 6, Los Amigos 0--Amanda Freed scored four goals for visiting Pacifica (5-6, 2-0).

In the Golden West League:

Saddleback 2, Westminster 0--Olivia Elias and Griselda Ramirez scored for visiting Saddleback (9-3-1, 1-1). Westminster is 10-3, 1-1.

In the Olympic League:

Ontario Christian 4, Brethren Christian 1--Jamie Franklin scored to break up the shutout for Brethren Christian (6-3, 3-1). Ontario Christian improved to 4-0 in league.

Whittier Christian 7, Connelly 0--Dianne Beck scored two goals for Whittier Christian (4-1-1, 2-1-1).

In the Sea View League:

El Toro 2, Woodbridge 1--Chris Mariscal and Lauren Orlandos scored first-half goals for host El Toro (9-5-2, 1-0).

Corona del Mar 2, Irvine 2--Megan Bryan and Lindsey Grubbs each scored a goal in the league opener for Corona del Mar (5-6-2, 0-0-1).

Irvine, ranked 10th in the county, is 7-5-3, 0-0-1.

Santa Margarita 2, Newport Harbor 0--Casey Hamel scored two first-half goals for Santa Margarita (6-1, 1-0), the top-ranked team in Orange County.

In nonleague games:

Brea Olinda 2, Chino Hills Ayala 1--Andrea Pietka and Aarin Zeif each scored for host Brea Olinda (12-3-1).

Laguna Beach 11, St. Margaret's 0--Kristin Miracle scored three goals for Laguna Beach (7-5-1).
