Pope Quits CSUN Softball Team

Jackie Pope has left the Cal State Northridge softball team, Coach Janet Sherman said.

Pope, a sophomore transfer from Oklahoma State, cited personal reasons for leaving the team. The season begins Feb. 1.

Pope, who was 1-1 with a 3.92 earned-run average at Oklahoma State, was expected to be part of the Matadors’ pitching rotation with sophomore Tara Glaister and junior Cheri Shinn.

DaCosta bolts: Leo DaCosta of Harvard-Westlake High, a starting point guard for the Wolverines’ state Division III championship team last season, has left the team because of academic reasons. DaCosta, who averaged 3.2 assists last season, began the season academically ineligible and subsequently decided to focus on academics.

Remaking a date: A Marmonte League girls’ basketball game between Channel Islands and Agoura, originally to be played last month, has been rescheduled for Saturday at Agoura High.

Reseda Recreation Center will hold signups for baseball and softball seasons from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sign-ups will continue until leagues are filled.
