UCI’s Amr Nets Water Polo Honor

Omar Amr, a senior water polo player at UC Irvine, was named Monday a second-team All-American by the American Water Polo Coaches Assn. for the second consecutive year.
Amr, from Sunny Hills High, scored 55 goals for the Anteaters last season. He earned honorable mention honors as a sophomore.
Also named to the second team were UCI junior Ryan Bailey, who had a team-high 72 goals this season, and UCLA’s Jeremy Braxton-Brown (Capistrano Valley). Bailey was an honorable mention selection last year.
Among those receiving honorable mention this year were UCI junior goalie Tom Davis (La Habra), who had 184 saves in 24 games last season, and Stanford’s Crosby Grant (Corona del Mar).
UCLA’s Matt Swanson and Guy Baker were named player and coach of the year, respectively.

Cory Fross, a 6-5, 265-pound offensive lineman from Southern Section Division VIII champion Aliso Niguel, has committed to play football at Southern Methodist, his mother, Beverly, said.

Qahhar Burns, a starting cornerback for Saddleback College’s national championship football team, announced he will sign with Wyoming.
Burns, from Denver South High, had 27 tackles, six passes broken up and three interceptions last season.

Cypress College sophomore Colby Morgan has made an oral commitment to San Jose State to play soccer, and teammate Val Brice has committed to Creighton.
