Cypress Routs Moorpark, 14-2, in Softball Tournament

Cypress hit three home runs in a 14-2 victory over Moorpark to complete a four-game sweep of pool play at the Apple Photo softball tournament Saturday.

Autumn Gwinner, Melissa Beck and Aimee Weathers each had a home run in the game, which was called after five innings on the mercy rule.

Jaime Wilkes pitched two complete games for the Chargers (4-0). Wilkes pitched a seven-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over Palomar.

Wilkes also beat Sacramento City, 5-4.

Cypress’ Kelly Humphries hit her first home run of the season in the Chargers’ 7-3 victory over Antelope Valley.

In other Apple Photo tournament games:

Rancho Santiago 8, Grossmont 1--Sheryl Anderson gave up two hits and recorded her second victory of the day for Rancho Santiago (3-0). In earlier games, Anderson gave up one hit and Remy Amaro hit a home run as the Dons defeated Chaffey, 11-0, in a game that was stopped after four innings due to the mercy rule. The Dons also defeated College of the Canyons, 9-1.

In the Cypress Mitsubishi baseball tournament:

Saddleback 5, Canada 1--Ryan Tack (2-0) threw a three-hit shutout for Saddleback (6-1).

Cypress 14, Mt. San Jacinto 2--Greg Jacobs was two for four, including a home run, with four RBIs for Cypress (7-2). Catcher Craig Kuzmic had two hits for Cypress (6-2) in a 2-1 victory over San Diego Mesa.

In the Bulldog baseball tournament:

Rancho Santiago 12, Cabrillo 4--Ryan Blackmon was two for five with a home run and three RBIs. Matt Ward (1-0) pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and four strikeouts.

In nonconference softball:

Saddleback 8-5, College of the Desert 0-8--Tairyn Blankartz pitched a two-hit shutout as Saddleback won the first game of a doubleheader. Shawnie Gordon had three hits and two runs scored in the game for the Gauchos (1-1).
