Chatsworth Fits Kennedy for a Tie

Montae McFarland scored 20 points and Chatsworth upset Kennedy, 53-52, in a Northwest Valley Conference game Friday night at Kennedy.

By losing to the Chancellors (8-13, 1-9 in league play), Kennedy (12-10, 7-3) must share the West Valley League title with Cleveland.

Waking Bailey had 16 points for the Golden Cougars (12-10, 7-3).

In other boys’ games:

Cleveland 64, Taft 41--Donald Holt had 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for the Cavaliers (19-6, 7-3) in a West Valley League game at Cleveland.

El Camino Real 81, Granada Hills 80--Elan Buller made nine three-pointers, including the winning shot with one second left for the Conquistadores (7-15, 2-8) in a North Valley League game.

Buller finished with 47 points.

Desmond Williams scored 29 points for Granada Hills (13-11, 5-5).

Canoga Park 77, North Hollywood 72--Carloes Harper made six consecutive free throws down the stretch for the Hunters, who clinched the East Valley League title at North Hollywood.

Harper had 30 points and 13 rebounds for Canoga Park (15-10, 7-3).

Monroe 68, Grant 52--Mark Cumbiss had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Vikings (9-14, 6-4) in an East Valley League game at Monroe.

Harvard-Westlake 80, Crespi 40--Jarron Collins and Jason Collins combined for 25 points and 29 rebounds as the Wolverines (28-1, 12-0) completed their second consecutive undefeated Mission League season.

St. Francis 57, Chaminade 52--Chris Broadman had 20 points and six steals and Anthony Johnson added 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Golden Knights (16-10, 7-5) in a Mission league game.

Scott Long had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles (18-7, 9-3).

Notre Dame 67, Loyola 46--Jorge Piedra had 17 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for the Knights (15-12, 5-7) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Simi Valley 81, Royal 75--Despite outscoring Royal, 54-26, in the first half, the Pioneers had to sweat out a second-half rally by the Highlanders’ to win a share of the Marmonte League title.

Rafael Berumen, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, had 39 points and 10 rebounds for Simi Valley (21-3, 11-3).

Ryan Nielsen had 26 points and Nick Flanagan added 25 for the Highlanders (15-11, 7-7).

Newbury Park 77, Thousand Oaks 59--Daniel Bobik had 27 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers in a Marmonte League game.

Newbury Park (17-8, 11-3) earned a share of its first league title since 1981.

Agoura 65, Westlake 57--Marcus Helfman was held to 10 points, but Ryan Shannon filled the offensive void for the Chargers with 26 points and 17 rebounds in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

The Chargers (10-12, 7-7) finished tied with Royal for fourth place, but swept the season series with the Scorpions to earn a playoff berth.

Jake Stewart had 27 points for Westlake (11-14, 4-10).

L.A. Baptist 98, Frazier Mountain 58--David Plaxen scored 21 points, and Aaron Davis and Jermaine Sweet each had 18 for the Knights in an Alpha League game at Frazier Mountain.

L.A. Baptist (22-2, 11-1) clinched its second consecutive league title.

Hart 88, Saugus 71--J.T. Stotts scored 25 points for the Indians (21-5, 10-0) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Santa Paula 60, Nordhoff 48--Josh Jiminez had 31 points for the Cardinals (17-7, 8-2) in a Frontier League game against host Nordhoff (7-16, 2-8).

Calabasas 93, Malibu 86--Ryan Coleman had 40 points and 11 assists, and Bobby Baumann added 22 points--including six three-pointers--for the Coyotes (13-12, 4-6) in a double-overtime Frontier League game at Calabasas.

GIRLS

Kennedy 64, Taft 10--Two players posted triple-doubles for the Golden Cougars (22-3, 10-0)--ranked eighth in the region by The Times--in the West Valley League game at Taft.

Tamaya Morris had 13 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists, while Monia Calhoun added 11 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists.

El Camino Real 45, Chatsworth 38--Cara Blumfield had 19 points for the Conquistadores (14-2, 8-2) in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth (11-13, 3-7).

North Hollywood 65, Grant 33--Claudia Villa had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies (21-3, 10-0) in a Mid-Valley League game at Grant.

Canyon 51, Valencia 50--Valerie Wiggins had 27 points, including four in overtime, to lead the Cowboys past the Vikings (12-11, 4-6) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Wiggins hit a 15-foot shot with 50 seconds left in overtime to give the Cowboys (11-11, 6-4) a 51-48 lead.

Burroughs 54, Burbank 32--Chantel Jimenez had 20 points and nine rebounds as the Indians (17-8, 8-2) clinched second place in the Foothill League.

Moorpark 62, Santa Clara 44--Damaris Hinojosa had 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Musketeers (21-2, 9-1), who clinched a share of the Frontier League title at Santa Clara (12-10, 6-4).

Glendale 72, Arcadia 32--Victoria Oganyan had 25 points, six assists and six steals for the Dynamiters (14-9, 5-5).
