The Division I semifinal at 3 p.m. today between host Los Alamitos and Edison will be a Sunset League showdown. Third-seeded Los Alamitos (22-4-3) defeated Edison by scores of 2-0 and 2-1. The Griffins are led by forward Cyndi Tredway, who has scored more than 20 goals this season, midfielder Sommer Hammoud and goalkeeper Jenny Willemse.

Edison (16-9-2) finished third in the league, but has been hot in the playoffs. It defeated top-seeded Capistrano Valley, 2-0, in the second round.

“This is like a coach’s dream,” Edison Coach Kerry McGrath-Crooks said. “We started out [the season] being mediocre and we’ve had a steady progression. We’re peaking at the right time and doing the things [we] need to do. This team is not bored yet.”

In Division II, top-seeded Santa Margarita will travel to Ventura Buena for a 3 p.m. game today. Santa Margarita (17-1-3) is the only seeded team remaining.

Buena (23-2-4) defeated fourth-seeded Glendora St. Lucy’s, 2-1, in the quarterfinals, but Bulldog center midfielder Megan Munday was ejected from the game after receiving two yellow cards, making her ineligible to play against Santa Margarita.

“Obviously, with their record right now . . . we have a lot of respect for them and we are also playing them at their place,” said Santa Margarita Coach Chuck Morales. “We’re going to go and put the best 11 on the field and shoot it out with them.”

El Modena, the Division II champion last season, has been tearing through the Division III playoffs this season, defeating its first three opponents by a combined score of 20-2.

The Vanguards, 18-7-2 overall, dropped to Division III this season after the section realigned its playoff divisions according to enrollment.

Fourth-seeded El Modena faces a tough opponent at 3 p.m. today, when it hosts top-seeded North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake (17-4-1), which beat its first three opponents by a combined score of 11-1.
