Crescenta Valley Rallies to Beat Newbury Park on the Fly, 2-1

Leslie Linnemeyer drove in Becca Baldridge with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning and Crescenta Valley High rallied for a 2-1 victory over Newbury Park in the championship game of the Downey softball tournament Saturday at Rio San Gabriel Park.

Crescenta Valley (8-1), the fourth-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll, scored the tying run in the fifth after fifth-ranked Newbury Park (10-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning.

Pitcher Melinda Moulden (6-1) drew a bases-loaded walk for the Falcons to score pinch-runner Corrie Atwood and tie the game, 1-1.

Elisa Muran had two hits and drove in Newbury Park’s run.

Candace Roberts of Crescenta Valley, who played shortstop, catcher, third base and center field in four games, earned the tournament’s Golden Glove award.

Paraclete 2, Louisville 1--Pinch-runner Erin Flores scored from second base on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Spirits in the Lancaster tournament at Lancaster City Park.

Paraclete (5-0), ranked ninth in The Times’ regional poll, tied the score, 1-1, when Cassie Burke singled home Barbara Alaniz in the sixth inning.

Becky Witt scored for Louisville (5-3) in the first inning when she singled, moved to second on an error, stole third and came home on a throwing error by Burke.

Alemany 10, Highland 0--Meghann Reiss had three hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in three for the Indians (7-3) in a Lancaster tournament game.

Kim Diener (7-3) pitched a one-hitter and allowed just one runner to reach base.

Anngela De La Cerda had three hits, scored three runs and knocked in two for Alemany.

Kennedy 6, Norwalk 0--Sandra Durazo pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one, for the Golden Cougars (8-1) in the seventh-place game of the Downey tournament.

Durazo (8-1), a senior bound for San Diego State, had a no-hitter through six innings before allowing two singles in the seventh.

Carin Garcia had a two-run triple to spark a six-run sixth inning.

Harvard-Westlake 5-5, Beverly Hills 0-1--Anna Russell (8-0), who hasn’t allowed an earned run in the last 61 innings, pitched a pair of two-hitters for the Wolverines at Beverly Hills.

Russell struck out a total of 13 and Kim Koral had five hits and scored two runs in the doubleheader for the Wolverines (9-0).

Royal 2-3, La Reina 1-4--Jennifer Valadez doubled home Andrea Loveless with the winning run for the Highlanders (4-6) in the sixth inning of the first game at La Reina.

Valadez had two doubles and Julie Nelson doubled home Jenny Arzola with the tying run in the fifth inning.

La Reina scored four runs in the sixth inning of the second game on four hits and two wild pitches. Stephanie Deddens had a two-run double.

Stephanie Thomas had three hits and two RBIs for Royal.
