Freshman Upstages Birmingham Record
The Birmingham High girls’ track team beat Granada Hills, 85-32, Friday in a Northwest Valley Conference meet, but it was a strange day for the Braves’ Shanika Askew.
Askew’s toss of 38 feet 8 inches in the shotput was a school record, but she couldn’t beat Granada Hills freshman Jessica Cosby, who threw a City Section season-best of 41-2. Cosby also won the 100 meters in 12.7 seconds.
Birmingham is 3-0 in season and conference meets; Granada Hills is 1-2.
Grant 87, Van Nuys 40--Molly Roche won the 440-yard dash in 1:06.8 and the 880 in 2:35.8 and ran on victorious 440 and mile relays for the Lancers (3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Grant.

Chris Wilson led the Chancellors with 13 kills and Stephen Wiessner had 10 kills and eight blocks.
