Howard’s Slam Shuts the Door on Agoura, 14-2

Sophomore Kevin Howard’s grand slam highlighted a six-run fourth inning and Westlake High routed Agoura, 14-2, in a Marmonte League baseball game Wednesday at Westlake.

Howard went two for three, including his third home run of the season, and drove in five runs. Howard was one of four players to hit home runs for Westlake (10-4-1, 3-1-1 in league play).

Ryan Cope, who went three for three with three RBIs, hit his fourth home run.

Troy Soukup and Chris Parker also hit home runs.

Thousand Oaks 4, Newbury Park 3--David Perry doubled home Eleo Cuadra with the winning run in the seventh inning in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Perry had a two-run single in the first inning and a double in the fourth for the Lancers (9-7, 2-3).

Sophomore right-hander Matt Rogers (2-1) pitched a three-hitter.

Ryan Ayers singled and homered for Newbury Park.

Royal 4, Channel Islands 1--Matt Rainer (4-1) scattered five hits over six innings for the Highlanders (8-6, 4-1) in a Marmonte League game.

Charles Merricks had two hits and drove in a run for the Raiders.

The Highlanders scored four runs in the third on their only three hits, a hit batter, a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice.

Kennedy 12, Granada Hills 6--Jon Garland hit a grand slam in the sixth inning for the Golden Cougars (14-7, 6-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.

Garland finished four for four with six RBIs and Josh Miranda added a solo home run.

John Brin had three hits, including a grand slam, for the Highlanders (4-12, 0-8).

Highland 16, Palmdale 9--Dan Galvan had two home runs and five RBIs, and Traviss Hodge homered and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs (5-11, 2-3) in an upset of fifth-ranked Palmdale (13-4, 3-2) in a Golden League game at Highland.

Galvan hit a three-run home run in a 12-run third inning and a solo shot in the second. Hodge hit a two-run home run in the first.

Zeb McDaniel had two doubles and two RBIs for Palmdale.

Antelope Valley 7, Quartz Hill 6--The Antelopes (11-5, 4-0) scored six runs in the fifth and Jeremy Holiday (6-2) pitched four innings in relief of ace Sean Douglass in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.

Quartz Hill (9-6, 1-4) tagged Douglass for five hits in three innings to take a 3-0 lead.

Holiday held the Rebels to five hits, including solo home runs by Jo’sean Lyles and Ryan West.

El Camino Real 13, Chatsworth 4--Home runs by Joe Merchan, Raymond Leduc and Kurt Birkins powered the Conquistadores (10-7, 5-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at El Camino Real.

Merchan was four for four.

Shaun Fishman (4-3) pitched an eight-hitter with five strikeouts.

Tim Weigand and Danny Eisenberg had home runs for Chatsworth (11-6, 6-2).

Birmingham 9, Taft 6--Joey Rubin had three hits for the Braves (13-9, 5-3) in a Northwest Valley game at Birmingham.

Yaron Peters had three hits for Taft (12-6, 5-3).

Reseda 10, Van Nuys 5--Alfredo Saenz was four for four with four RBIs, including a two-run home run, and Jared Weisberg had a three-run home run for the Regents (6-8, 3-5) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.

Angel Barajas had a two-run home run for Van Nuys.

Sylmar 5, Grant 1--Armando Garcia had two hits for the Spartans (11-6, 8-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

Hugo Godinez had two hits for the Lancers (7-11, 4-4).

Canoga Park 6, Monroe 5--Junior Galvan tripled and scored the winning run on a wild pitch for the Hunters (4-10, 3-5) in the fifth inning of a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Lanark Park.
