SCC Sweeps Pacific Christian in Softball Doubleheader

Southern California College used good pitching to win the first game and a 13-hit attack to win the second as the Vanguards swept Pacific Christian in a nonconference softball doubleheader, 2-0 and 8-0, Thursday at SCC.

In the first game, Jen Houston (7-16) pitched a two-hitter, giving up both hits to Pacific Christian’s Leslie Williams, and struck out seven for SCC (17-29-1). Michelle Murie hit a two-run double in the first for SCC.

In the second game, five SCC starters collected two hits each. Christina Blankenship and Murie each had two hits and two runs scored for the Vanguards.

Williams and Tricia Emry each went three for three for Pacific Christian (11-20) in the second game.

In other nonconference games:

Concordia 10-0, San Diego 5-4--Ali Carlson had three hits and four RBIs and Jessina Stedman had two RBIs for the Eagles (20-20) in the 10-0 victory in Game 1. Concordia managed only three hits in the second game against San Diego (23-23).

In nonconference baseball:

UC San Diego 6, Southern California College 5--The Vanguards led, 5-2, through six innings but the Tritons rallied to hand SCC (27-13) its third consecutive loss. Greg Schrieber had three hits and two RBIs for SCC, including a home run in the sixth.

UCSD scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh off SCC starter Jeremiah Taylor and reliever Joshua Steele.

In Big West Conference women’s tennis:

Cal State Fullerton 7, UC Irvine 2--Debbie Vonusa won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to lead Cal State Fullerton (7-14, 1-4). Mai Nguyen was the only winner in singles, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, for UC Irvine (9-12, 0-4).

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s tennis:

Southern California College 7, Cal Baptist 0--Nan Ma swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, and Paulo Barriga swept at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5, for host SCC (14-7).
