A Royal Beating Administered to Thousand Oaks

Ryan Denihan had 16 kills and Royal High beat Thousand Oaks, 15-6, 15-9, 16-14, in a Marmonte League boys’ volleyball match Friday night at Royal.

Nick Flanagan added 15 kills for the Highlanders (10-0, 8-0), the second-ranked team in Southern Section Division I.

In the first game, Royal had nine blocks against Thousand Oaks (6-2, 6-2), ranked eighth.

Mira Costa d. Harvard-Westlake, 15-12, 15-6, 14-16, 15-5--Trevor Julian had 39 kills for the Wolverines (8-3), the fourth-ranked team in Division III, against the Mustangs, ranked sixth in Division I.

Kennedy d. Taft, 10-15, 15-3, 17-15, 11-15, 15-8--Jeff Toon had 30 kills for the Golden Cougars (6-4, 3-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Kennedy. Joe Nargi had 28 kills for Taft (7-3, 4-3).

Campbell Hall d. Marshall, 15-4, 15-6, 15-3--Larry Cole had 13 kills for the Vikings (8-2, 4-0) in an Alpha League match at Marshall.

Crespi d. Alemany, 15-11, 16-14, 15-10--Ryan Hill and James Spratt each had 16 kills for the Celts (6-5, 4-3) in a Mission League match at Alemany.

BOYS’ TRACK

Canoga Park 64 1/2, Van Nuys 61 1/2--Anchor Michael Shoemaker came from behind in the 1,600-meter relay and the Hunters (2-2, 2-2) won the last event and a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Canoga Park.

Kennedy 92, San Fernando 41--Travis Bell won the 100, 200 and anchored two relay victories for the Golden Cougars (2-3, 2-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at San Fernando.

North Hollywood 104, Grant 23--Paul Muite won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, and ran in the 1,600 relay for the Huskies in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at North Hollywood.

DeJon Lee swept the jumping events for the Huskies (5-0, 5-0).

Verdugo Hills 66, Belmont 61--Jeremy Cunningham vaulted 14-8 for the Dons (4-1, 4-1) in a Northern Conference meet at Verdugo Hills, breaking the school record of 14-1 he set last week.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Grant 63, North Hollywood 63--Maria Herrera won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter races for the Huskies (4-0-1, 4-0-1) in the Valley Pac-8 Conference meet that ended in a tie at North Hollywood.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Simi Valley 11, Newbury Park 7--Carlo Cruz swept No. 1 singles play for the Pioneers (10-3, 5-3) in a Marmonte League match at Rancho Simi Park.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Thousand Oaks 121, Newbury Park 60--Eric Shafer won the 100-meter freestyle in 49.50 for the Lancers (6-3-1, 4-0-1) in a Marmonte League meet at Newbury Park and qualified for the Southern Section championships.

Shafer swam on the victorious 200 medley and 200 free relay teams.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Thousand Oaks 118, Newbury Park 53--Katie Wilson won the 100-meter backstroke and Emily Pace captured the 500 freestyle for the Lancers (4-6, 3-2) in a Marmonte League meet at Newbury Park.
