Cal Lutheran Clears Plate, 6-4

Cal Lutheran scored two runs in the eighth inning after blowing a four-run lead in the top of the inning to pull out a 6-4 victory over Pomona-Pitzer in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball game Friday in Thousand Oaks.

Mike Young tripled to lead off the eighth and scored the go-ahead run for the Kingsmen (27-7, 15-1 in conference play) on a sacrifice fly by Ruben Torres. Joe Jauregi scored later on a sacrifice fly by Rich Holmes.

David Sofro’s double drove in the tying runs for the Sagehens (8-27, 5-11), who had two runners thrown out at the plate during the eighth.

CS Northridge 13, San Francisco 6--Erasmo Ramirez (8-3) struck out 10 and won his third consecutive start to move into fifth place on the all-time Matador victory list in a nonconference game at San Francisco.

Ramirez, who went the distance despite surrendering 10 hits, has 22 career victories.

Chris MacMillan had two doubles and drove in three runs, and Dan Pierce had a home run and three runs batted in for Northridge (32-17-1), which built a 12-0 lead after four innings.

Adam Kennedy had three hits, including a home run, and scored three runs for Northridge.

Jose Miranda added a home run and a double, and scored four runs for the Matadors.

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 9-0, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 8-2--A three-run sixth inning powered the Regals (17-6-1, 14-2) in the first game of a SCIAC doubleheader at Claremont.

Donna Scott and Julie DiFatta had consecutive doubles for the Regals in the sixth.

Christine Holcomb (7-0-1) relieved Daniela Hugelshofer in the fourth and earned the victory.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Cal Lutheran 6, Whittier 3--Jill Embree defeated Jen Jackson, 6-4, 6-0, in singles and then teamed with Karrie Matson to beat Shefali Desai and Pam Lentz, 6-2, 6-1, in doubles for the Regals (9-9, 3-6) in a second-round match of the SCIAC Championships at Cal Lutheran.

Cal Lutheran, which lost in the first round to Redlands earlier in the day, will play in the fifth-place final against Caltech at 10 a.m. today.
