Trent Marcus, the Edison boys’ soccer coach, has resigned after three seasons in charge of the program, Athletic Director Bruce Belcher said Monday. Marcus, a walk-on coach, led the Chargers to the playoffs twice. He and his wife recently had their first child and he didn’t feel he had enough time to continue coaching, Belcher said.

Mater Dei’s Vince Shinnefield, The Times Orange County’s lineman of the year, is one of three Monarchs to be named to the South roster, which was announced Monday, for the 38th North-South All-Star football game July 11 at Orange Coast College.

Shinnefield will be joined by quarterback Nick Stremick and wide receiver David Castleton, who helped Mater Dei win its second Southern Section Division I championship in the last three years.

Santa Margarita, the Division V champion, will be represented by four players, and Division VIII champion Aliso Niguel by three. Santa Margarita’s Jim Hartigan will coach the South.

Servite’s Greg Cicero was named Saturday a local winner of the 23rd Brian Piccolo Award, which is presented to a senior of Italian heritage who has shown outstanding improvement in athletics. Cicero, who has signed with Texas, was honored by the Downey chapter of UNICO National.

Brea Olinda guard Sean Wink has signed to play basketball at Northwestern, Brea officials announced. Wink, a Times all-county selection, averaged 20.7 points for the Wildcats this season.

Midfielder Josh McLeish of Capistrano Valley Christian has orally committed to attend Southern California College. McLeish, the son of SCC soccer coach Dave McLeish, didn’t play high school soccer last season, but was a first-team All-Southern Section Division II pick at San Clemente in 1996.
