Many of the top softball teams in the region begin pool play in the 24-team Thousand Oaks tournament today at Thousand Oaks Community Park and Los Cerritos Intermediate School in Thousand Oaks.

The tournament continues May 3 and May 10.

Thousand Oaks, The Times’ top-ranked team in the region, will be joined by second-ranked Hart, third-ranked Simi Valley, sixth-ranked Hoover, ninth-ranked Kennedy and 10th-ranked Camarillo, as well as Buena, Chaminade, Glendale, Louisville, Moorpark, Newbury Park, Rio Mesa and Westlake.

There will be 20 games at Los Cerritos, with start times from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and four games will be at Thousand Oaks Community Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Top games feature Kennedy vs. Simi Valley at 9 a.m. and Hart vs. Newbury Park at 11 a.m. at Community Park. At Los Cerritos, Chaminade plays Righetti at 11 a.m., and Hoover takes on Mater Dei, the Southern Section Division I champion, at 5 p.m.

Minor league baseball: At 7:15 p.m., San Jose at Lancaster.

College baseball: At 11 a.m., La Verne at Cal Lutheran (doubleheader). At noon, Chaffey at Antelope Valley (doubleheader). At 1 p.m., Pierce at Canyons, Bakersfield at Mission, Cuesta at Moorpark, Hancock at Ventura, Santa Barbara City at Oxnard, Valley at Glendale.

College softball: At noon, Cal Lutheran at La Verne. At 2 p.m., Moorpark at Santa Barbara, Santa Monica at Valley.

College swimming: At 10 a.m., Western State Conference Championships at Ventura.

College track and field: At 9 a.m., California-Nevada state championships at Cal State Northridge (field events). At 11:15 a.m., California-Nevada state championships at Cal State Northridge (running events).

High school baseball: At 11 a.m., Notre Dame vs. St. Francis at Occidental College, Lone Pine at Lancaster Bethel Christian.
