Westlake Blasts Into Semifinals

Darren Joe was 3-0 in singles play and the doubles team of Garrett Wong and Kenny Simpson swept their matches to pace Westlake High to a 13-5 victory over Dos Pueblos in a Southern Section Division III boys’ tennis quarterfinal Tuesday at North Ranch Tennis Club in Westlake Village.
Westlake (21-0) will meet Garden Grove in a semifinal Thursday at a site to be determined.
Joe, a junior, defeated Bryan Golledge, 6-3; Grant Chen, 6-0; and Peter Osgood, 6-0.
Wong, a freshman, and Simpson, a junior, defeated Jeremy Archuleta and Andy Martin, 7-6 (7-3); Tim Philibosian and Zack Bruce, 6-2; and Kyle Brooks and Christof Sturm, 6-0.
In another Division III match:
Harvard-Westlake 18, Hacienda Heights Wilson 0--Sophomore Kamyar Daneshvar and freshman Aron Gortman, playing at No. 2 doubles for the Wolverines (17-5), did not lose a game while sweeping their three sets in a quarterfinal match at the Studio City Racquet Centre.
Harvard-Westlake meets Palm Desert on Thursday.
DIVISION I
Loyola 12, Glendale 6--Ji Chung won his three singles matches to improve to 65-0 on the season but Glendale (20-1) won only three other matches against the Cubs (22-1).
DIVISION IV
Campbell Hall 10, Santa Maria St. Joseph 8--The Vikings (19-0) advanced to the semifinals for the first time in school history with a victory in Santa Maria.
Campbell Hall’s No. 3 doubles team of Justin Castillo and Daniel Abrams won two of three sets.
