Peninsula Runs by Hart for 35-10 Win

Three Palos Verdes Peninsula High players rushed for more than 100 yards as the top-seeded Panthers defeated Newhall Hart, 35-10, in a Southern Section Division II football semifinal Friday night at Harbor College.
Peninsula (13-0) will play the winner of tonight’s game between Chino Hills Ayala and Antelope Valley in the division championship game next week.
Peninsula gained 415 yards.
“It’s not like they were breaking the line of scrimmage with huge holes,” Hart Coach Mike Herrington said. “Our guys were in position to make plays and we just didn’t.”
Leading 14-10, Peninsula (13-0) took possession after a failed Hart onside kick to open the second half.
The Panthers then marched 47 yards in 12 plays, all runs. Brad Durbin, who had 104 yards and two touchdowns in 15 carries, capped the drive with a two-yard plunge to make the score 21-10.
Peninsula, which held the ball for 15 minutes and 18 seconds in the second half, went ahead 28-10 after a 94-yard, 10-play drive.
Hart receiver Nate Small suffered an unconfirmed injury early in the second quarter and lay motionless on the Hart sideline for more than 30 minutes before an ambulance arrived and transported him to a local hospital.
DIVISION III
Garrett Linter gained 140 yards in 12 carries and scored on a 51-yard touchdown run in the third quarter as Arroyo Grande defeated Arcadia, 19-0, at Arcadia.
Arroyo Grande will play for the division title against the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Righetti.
DIVISION IV
Tyrone Ervin rushed for 139 yards in 20 carries and scored two touchdowns as Riverside North defeated Norco, 35-21, at UC Riverside.
North will play for the division title against the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Canyon Springs and Chino.
DIVISION V
Carson Palmer completed 14 of 29 passes for 297 yards to lead Santa Margarita to a 27-7 victory over Newport Harbor.
Santa Margarita will play for the division title against the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Brea and Tustin.
DIVISION VI
Ernie Rivera gained 120 yards in 25 carries and scored three touchdowns as Bell Gardens defeated El Monte Arroyo, 35-24, at Bell Gardens.
Bell Gardens will play Hacienda Heights Wilson, a 43-22 winner Friday over Pomona Garey, for the division championship next week.
Wilson’s Paul Le’au returned an interception 46 yards for a score.
DIVISION VIII
Robert Herndon passed for four touchdowns and rushed for two and receiver Tim Lemon had seven catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns as La Mirada defeated Covina, 43-22, at La Mirada.
La Mirada will play for the division title against the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Northview and Laguna Hills.
DIVISION IX
Hussein Meadows gained 100 yards in 19 carries to lead Manhattan beach Mira Costa to an 18-6 victory over Redondo Union at El Camino College.
Mira Costa will play for the division title against the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Monrovia and Beverly Hills.
DIVISION IX
Moorpark defeated Carpinteria, 33-0, at Moorpark for its first victory over Carpinteria since 1934, a streak of 51 games.
Moorpark plays the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Orange Lutheran and St. Monica.
DIVISION XI
Paraclete qualified for its first championship game since 1969 by defeating defending champion Yucca Valley, 28-6, at Quartz Hill.
Paraclete (12-1) plays the winner of tonight’s game between Banning and Riverside Notre Dame.
