Rundles Take Home Top Awards

Setter Brooke Rundle of Westlake High was selected most valuable player in Southern Division II girls’ volleyball.

Rundle, who helped the Warriors win the Division II-A title, has committed to UC Santa Barbara. Her mother, Westlake Coach Chris Rundle, was selected Division II coach of the year.

Outside hitters Heather Hutchison and Megan Mullen of Westlake were selected to the All-Southern Section Division II team. Middle blocker Erika Denison of Westlake and setter Lynde Smith of Ventura were second-team selections.

In Division IV, Flintridge Sacred Heart outside hitter Danielle Dal Ponte was co-player of the year. Tolog Coach Nancy Tinkham was Division IV coach of the year.

Other Division IV selections include Megan Hosp and Catherine Smith of Flintridge Sacred Heart, Kristen Jensen of L.A. Baptist and Kristen Jones of St. Bonaventure.

Middle blocker Sherisa Livingston of Royal was selected to Division I team. Courtney Guerra of Royal, Josie Wilson of Highland and Marci Diaz of Canyon were second-team selections.

Michelle Wong and Carissa Abbott of Harvard-Westlake, Emily Dalbeck of La Canada and Brooke Niles of Calabasas were Division III selections.

Flora Pappas of Flintridge Prep made the Division V team.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Pac man: Shaun Avalos of Sylmar was selected offensive player of the year in the Valley Pac-8 Conference.

Linebacker Carlos Gomez of Canoga Park was the defensive player of the year.

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS

Sharing wealth: Mindy Gondrez of Simi Valley was selected most valuable player in the Marmonte League after helping the Pioneers to a share of the league title.

COLLEGE WATER POLO

Making a splash: Freshman David Stone of Pennsylvania, from Harvard-Westlake High, was selected most valuable player in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. He scored the winning goal in overtime of the conference championship game.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Hot shot: Guard John Burrell of Antelope Valley was selected most valuable player of the McDonalds tournament, which the Marauders won Sunday with a 102-98 victory over Santa Monica.

Burrell averaged 27 points over three games.
