CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES AT A GLANCE : DIVISION V

Tustin (13-0) vs. Santa Margarita (13-0)

7:30 P.M. SATURDAY

CAL STATE FULLERTON

These teams use vastly different systems, yet both posted impressive numbers. Defending Division V champion Santa Margarita’s average margin of victory is 36.2 points and Tustin’s is 35.3. Still, Tustin hasn’t faced as balanced a team as Santa Margarita and that figures to be the key factor: The Eagles appear to have way too many horses for the Tillers, who gain most of their yardage on the ground behind the county’s leading rusher, DeShaun Foster. The Eagles have rushed and passed for 2,860 yards. Foster has accounted for 3,020 yards alone. This might not be the 31-0 wipeout it was a year ago when the teams met in the semifinals, though. Last season, Foster was averaging 11.4 yards a carry but got only 26 in 14 attempts against the Eagles. “They have improved greatly from last year,” Eagle Coach Jim Hartigan said. He agreed with counterpart Myron Miller that it will take a near-perfect effort for Tustin to win its first section championship since 1948. The Tillers lost in their last title game appearances in 1990 and ’91.
