Honors: Emmanuel Evans of Birmingham High has been selected Northwest Valley Conference offensive player of the year. Taft’s Sedric Hurns and Tyler Brennan were chosen defensive co-players of the year.
Evans, a running back, gained 2,205 yards and scored 26 touchdowns. Hurns, a safety, and Brennan, a linebacker, led Taft to the City Section 4-A Division championship game.
Notre Dame tailback Justin Fargas, St. Francis quarterback Kjell Nesen and Serra linebacker Jashon Sykes have been named tri-players of the year in the Mission League. Their teams tied for first place.
