Boykin Plans to Compete in Soccer, Track at UCI

Tiffany Boykin will play soccer, as well as compete in track and field, at UC Irvine, girls’ soccer coach Marine Cano said Monday.

Boykin, who signed a scholarship agreement with Irvine last week, was a track, cross-country and soccer standout at Laguna Hills High School. She will play defense, according to Cano.

She won the 800 meters at Southern Section finals as a junior and senior at Laguna Hills. Boykin, who graduated from Laguna Hills in 1995, has spent the last two years at Kansas.

Skye Green, who holds UC Irvine records in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship for postgraduate study by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee.

Green, who was a four-time Big West Conference Scholar-Athlete, graduated from Irvine in June with a double major in English and environmental engineering. She was the university’s Lauds and Laurels Outstanding Athlete this past year.

Green earned All-American honors in the 400 hurdles this season. She broke her school record in the event five times during the 1997 season, including a time of 57.11 seconds in the NCAA preliminaries.

Orange Coast College outside hitter Kevin Reid has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at UC Irvine, OCC Coach Chuck Cutenese said.

Reid was the Orange Empire Conference co-player of the year in 1997. He played at Woodbridge High School.
