Choi Qualifies for U.S. Amateur

Eunice Choi of Dove Canyon shot four-under-par 68 Monday at Mesa Verde to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Choi was first among 25 qualifiers and 62 players and beat runners-up Lisa Chang of City of Industry and Jenna Daniels of Chula Vista by four strokes.
Three other Orange County golfers qualified: Selby Schriber of Newport Beach, Amy Bubon of Fullerton and Sue Ewart of Seal Beach, who each shot 78.
The Women’s Amateur is scheduled Aug. 4-9 at Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, Mass.

Jared Ritter, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive tackle who will be a senior this fall at Mission Viejo High, has orally committed to play football at San Diego State, Diablo Coach Bill Denny said Monday.
Ritter, who started as a sophomore and junior, was a second-team All-South Coast League selection in 1996.
