MTA, Bus Riders to Discuss Service

Share

In an ongoing effort to address the needs of riders, the fifth in a series of meetings with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Bus Riders Union will be held Thursday in Sun Valley.

Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar) and City Councilman Richard Alarcon requested the groups meet in the northeast Valley, the area they represent, to give the community an opportunity to comment on bus service in the area.

The need for more buses to such destinations at medical services, jobs, shopping and entertainment venues is a primary concern of area residents, officials said.

The suggestions from bus riders will help determine the specifics of a pilot project being planned by the union and the MTA to add at least 50 buses to areas not well served.

Alarcon, who is an alternate on the MTA board of directors, said that service to the northeast Valley has been “largely inadequate,” especially for an area that depends so heavily on buses.

The meeting, the second to be held in the northeast Valley, will begin at 5 p.m. in the Sun Valley Recreation Center, 8133 Vineland Ave.
