Premieres, New Episodes Liven Up Summer Viewing

Two series are premiering this weekend and three shows are back with new episodes.

John Schneider and Leanza Cornett host the CBS summer series “Ordinary / Extraordinary,” Friday at 8 p.m. on Channel 2. The series will present offbeat and inspirational stories.

“American Independents” kicks off its second season Friday at 11 p.m. on Channel 28 with “Tarantella” with Mira Sorvino. The Oscar winner plays an ambitious photographer who discovers a family secret.

Keith Carradine, Duncan Regehr, Tristan Rogers and Fred Williamson star in Showtime’s new race car series, “Fast Track,” Sunday at 8 p.m. Larry Gelbart of “MASH” and “Barbarians at the Gate” is executive producer.

USA premieres the fourth season of “Pacific Blue,” Sunday at 8 p.m., followed by the seventh season of “Silk Stalkings,” at 9 p.m.

Friday

E! Entertainment Television’s “Theme Parks A-Go-Go ‘97,” at 3 p.m., takes viewers to some of America’s favorite theme parks.

Reporter Christina Gonzalez hosts the special “Through the Eyes of Children: War in Bosnia,” at 10:30 p.m. on Channel 11. Gonzalez visited the war-torn country this past spring and asked young survivors to document their experiences through photographs.

Saturday

“Disney’s Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra,” at 7 and 10:55 p.m. on the Disney Channel, features 82 youngsters from the U.S. and England performing the music of American composers. Michael Bolton also is on hand to perform “Go the Distance” from “Hercules.”

HBO presents a boxing match featuring South Africa’s Philip Holiday (30-0) defending his world lightweight championship against L.A.’s Shane Mosley (23-0) in a 12-round main event, at 11 p.m.

Sunday

Former Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda and pitcher Phil Niekro are among the legends joining the ranks at Cooperstown as ESPN2 shows live the “Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” at 3 p.m. ESPN repeats the ceremony at 9:30 p.m.

Former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley hosts A&E;’s “Uncommon Americans,” at 5 and 9 p.m., a special focusing on regular folks who have tried to better the lives of children.
