Orange Lutheran needed a four-touchdown performance from receiver Jeff Reneviere to hold off Brethren Christian, 35-23, in a wild Olympic League game Thursday night at Artesia High School.

Reneviere scored twice in the fourth quarter to close the door on the Warriors. His final catch was a 37-yard reception as he tiptoed down the Lancers’ sideline to clinch the victory after the Warriors had cut Orange Lutheran’s 14-point halftime lead to 28-23.

Brethren Christian’s Brian Pappagalo had an 88-yard scoring pass from Justin Miller up the middle with 3 minutes 47 seconds remaining that brought Brethren Christian to within five points.

The Warriors attempted an onside kick and one last chance at victory, but instead Orange Lutheran recovered inside the Warrior 50-yard line to set up Reneviere’s final score.

Reneviere had eight catches for 117 yards with scores of 16, nine, 29 and 37 yards. The Lancers led, 21-7, at halftime, capitalizing on two of three Brethren Christian first-half fumbles. Justin Smith recovered the first and scampered 25 yards for the opening score.

Orange Lutheran also scored three plays after Nick Kramer fell on a fumble by Miller. Quarterback Jason Whieldon then found Reneviere for his first touchdown of the evening.
