Mater Dei Receiver Boese Is Headed to Wisconsin

Joey Boese, a wide receiver and defensive back for Mater Dei, has made an oral commitment to play football at Wisconsin, Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson said Thursday.

Boese made official visits to Iowa and Washington State as well as Wisconsin, Rollinson said.

Boese has caught 41 passes for 668 yards this season and has three interceptions in nine games for the top-ranked Monarchs.

Matt Strickroth, a first baseman at Santa Margarita, has signed a letter of intent to attend Notre Dame next fall, Coach Tip Lefebvre said. Strickroth, 17, also had considered UCLA and Harvard.

Last season, Strickroth helped the Eagles finish second in the Sea View League, batting .393 with five homers and 28 runs batted in. Lefebvre said Strickroth was a second team all-league selection.

Kelly Bunker, a catcher on the Kennedy softball team, has signed to attend San Diego State, her coach, Sue Hall, said.

Bunker, who also played first base for the Fighting Irish, hit .313 last season.

Jamie Bagnall, a third baseman/shortstop at Mater Dei, has orally committed to attend Illinois State, Monarch Coach Doug Meyers announced.

Rosie Gustavson, a left fielder at Foothill who had 19 RBIs, said she has signed a letter of intent to play softball at North Carolina.

Brooke Hyman, who played three years of varsity at Aliso Niguel, has signed to play women’s basketball next season at Pittsburgh. Hyman, a 6-2 center, moved to Randolph, N.J., for her senior season. She averaged 15.2 points and 12.2 rebounds as a junior.

Kristin Deatherage, an outside hitter for the Fountain Valley girls’ volleyball team, has signed to attend Northeastern University in Boston, Baron Coach Lori Biller said.

Deatherage was a first-team All-Sunset League selection this year.

Beau Rawi, a senior outside hitter for Capistrano Valley High, has signed to play volleyball at USC, his father said.

Rawi, who has also played for several national youth teams, played club volleyball for the Balboa Bay team.
