Palisades and Marshall Win Championships

The girls’ tennis teams from Palisades and Hamilton high schools met in the City Section 4-A final for the third consecutive year.

And for the second consecutive year, Palisades emerged victorious.

The Dolphins defeated Hamilton, 7-0, Friday at the Racquet Centre in Studio City to win their 11th championship under Coach Bud Kling.

Palisades shut out Grant, Van Nuys and Hamilton en route to the championship.

Defending City singles champion Ilona Kordonskaya led the Palisades onslaught against Hamilton, defeating Annie Lippman, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 1 singles.

Mugette Ahn, Kristina Olshanskaya and Julie Westerman all won their matches in two sets without surrendering more than three games.

Palisades’ Lucy Zatcoukal and Stephanie Krauss won the No. 1 doubles match against Malaika Clements and Jennifer Davis, 6-3, 6-2, while Elisha Miller and Emily Zehr defeated Malikh Brooks and Quan Le Tran, 6-4, 7-5.

The closest Hamilton came to winning a match was in No. 3 doubles. Rebecca Ebin and Rachel Salzman defeated Sunny London and Jaspreet Kaur, 7-5, 7-6.

In the 3-A championship, Marshall won three of four singles matches and one doubles match to defeat Carson, 4-3, for its first 3-A title.

Marshall’s Karoline Tomicich outlasted May Domingo, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, in No. 1 singles to clinch the victory for Coach Jerry Arbogast’s Barristers.

Rose-Ann Newman and Ana Gonzalez also won singles matches.

Carson’s Lia Zabala gave Carson its only point by beating Susanna Gasparian, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

Rozi Mkrtchin and Ruth Gonzalez earned Marshall’s lone victory in doubles, defeating Rhealyn Bombarda and Lateya Williams, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
