In other Southern Section finals:

Cerritos Valley Christian d. St. Bonaventure, 15-5, 15-2, 15-7--Outside hitters Tomi Dombrowik and Kristen Jones combined for 24 kills for unseeded St. Bonaventure, but the Seraphs fell to top-seeded and defending champion Valley Christian in the Division IV match at Cerritos College.

Dombrowik had 14 kills and Jones had 10 kills and seven digs, but it was not enough to counter the attacking and blocking of Valley Christian’s two 6-1 middle blockers, junior Stacy Rouwenhorst and Jennifer Fopma.

Although St. Bonaventure (13-7) was swept the Seraphs played defense well enough to prolong the match to one hour 40 minutes.

“It was one of those things where we battled and we sided out really well, but we just weren’t able to score a lot of points,” St. Bonaventure Coach Peter Fox said. “We played about as well as we could. Cerritos Valley Christian’s just a really great team.”

Kathleen Solomon had five kills, six digs and 12 assists and Jessica Ornelas had 18 assists for St. Bonaventure, which was making its first appearance in a division final.

The Seraphs advanced to the championship match by toppling third-seeded Santa Maria St. Joseph in the quarterfinals and second-seeded L.A. Baptist in the semifinals.

They will play a first-round regional match in the state tournament Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.
