Players See Future in NFL

With their college careers now over, Cal State Northridge’s Marc Goodson and Jerome Henry are setting their sights on professional football.

“I want a shot at the league [NFL],” Goodson said. “I’m short, but there are a lot of short linebackers in the NFL right now.”

For the record:

Football: The Cal State Northridge football record for most receptions by a tandem in a season belongs to David Romines and Cameron Perry, who combined for 144 catches in 1996. The record was incorrectly reported in editions Sunday.

Goodson, 6 feet 2 and 235 pounds, was an All-American last season. He holds the Northridge record for unassisted tackles in a season (90 this year) and in a career (162) despite playing only two seasons with the Matadors.

He said five NFL teams have watched him on film.

Henry, 6-1 and 172 pounds, entered the final game with a Big Sky Conference-leading 7.0 receptions per game. He finished the season with 71 catches for 827 yards and eight touchdowns.

An All-Big Sky honorable mention last year, when he caught 47 passes for 767 yards, Henry said he was timed electronically in 4.4 seconds over 40 yards when he played at Iowa State in 1995-96.

“I feel I can compete [in the pros],” Henry said.

Junior Drew Hill had four catches and Henry had eight on Saturday to set a school single-season record for receptions by a tandem.

Hill (69 receptions) and Henry (71) surpassed the mark set last year by David Romines (87) and Cameron Perry (57).

Sophomore Aaron Arnold finished with 58 receptions, which nearly gave the Matadors an unprecedented three 60-catch receivers.
