The Sea View League, winner of all three championships since Division V became an All-Orange County division, was the biggest winner among local leagues; the Freeway and Sunset leagues took their lumps in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs.

All three Sea View League teams--top-seeded Santa Margarita, Woodbridge and Newport Harbor--won their playoff openers. The Freeway League was the lone county league to be knocked out in the first round, with Sunny Hills, Buena Park and Troy all falling in Division VIII.

The South Coast League led Division I with four teams qualifying for the playoffs, but three of them--Mission Viejo, Dana Hills and San Clemente--fell Friday, with only top-seeded Mater Dei surviving.
