Serratos, Ramos Set Winning Pace

Julio Serratos and Rafael Ramos of Glendale College placed first and second in the Biola Invitational cross-country meet Saturday at La Mirada Regional Park.

Serratos clocked 26:39 over the 8,000-meter (nearly five-mile) course to edge Ramos by a second and remain undefeated after five races this season.

Trevor Sybert of Biola was third in 26:41 with Dave Olds and Mike Richardson of the Reebok VO2 Max Track Club were fourth and fifth in 26:42 and 26:44.

Omar Orendain, Arbi Nazarian and Apolonio Ruiz were the third, fourth and fifth runners for Glendale, which defeated second-place Claremont-Mudd, 31-105, for the invitational division title.

Orendain finished 11th in 27:09, Nazarian was 24th in 27:25 and Ruiz placed 32nd in 27:48.

Cheryl Ramos paced Glendale to a third-place finish in the invitational portion of the women’s meet.

Ramos placed 16th with a time of 20:33 over the 5,000-meter course to help the Vaqueros to 94 points.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won with 30 points, followed by Occidental with 60.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pepperdine d. St. Mary’s, 15-4, 15-6, 15-3--Nicole Sanderson, Karen Benkovsky and Anna Witkowski each delivered 11 kills for Pepperdine in a West Coast Conference match at St. Mary’s.

The 12th-ranked Waves (13-0, 2-0) held significant edges over the Gaels (4-11, 0-2) in aces, 7-1, and digs, 66-32.

Eastern Washington d. Cal State Northridge, 15-7, 15-4, 14-16, 15-12--Holli Sierra had 14 kills in a Big Sky Conference match that was moved to Pierce College because of a blackout caused by an electrical fire at the student union at Northridge.

The teams played the first game at Northridge before moving venues.

Crystal Newquist had 11 kills for the Matadors (9-6, 3-3), who couldn’t stop the Eagles (12-2, 6-0), the preseason pick to win the conference.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Valley 7, Mt. San Antonio 6--Jon Conrad scored two goals to help the Monarchs (13-6) finish ninth in the Citrus tournament at Citrus College.

Cypress 4, Valley 3--Mike Scarcelli scored two goals in a Citrus tournament loss.

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 10, Caltech 0--Ryan Girod scored four goals in the first half of a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at Cal Lutheran (6-2).

The Beavers (2-6-1) were outshot, 17-1.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 16, Pacific Christian 0--Heather Holtad scored five goals for the Mustangs (5-5, 4-1) in a NAIA District III match.

Mary Ann McGardaid added three goals for Master’s, which outshot Pacific Christian, 52-0.
