La Reina Gets Going on New Streak

La Reina High has started over after its 53-match Tri-Valley League girls’ volleyball winning streak was halted last season.

The Regents registered a 15-7, 13-15, 15-8, 15-13 victory Tuesday night over Carpinteria, which ended the Regents’ winning streak a year ago.

Freshman Jennifer Ryan had 15 kills for La Reina (8-0, 1-0 in league play) and Shauna Stapley had four kills late in the fourth game, when the Regents were able to absorb the loss of setter Kylene Krol, who had seven kills and 22 assists, to a sprained left ankle.

Carpinteria (5-1, 0-1) received 23 kills from Heather Olmstead, who was hobbled by partially torn ligaments in her right ankle, and 20 kills from her twin sister, Nicole.

L.A. Baptist d. Village Christian, 15-6, 15-11, 15-7--Gloria Erickson had 21 kills and Kristen Jensen added 20 for the Knights (6-2) in an Alpha League opener at Village Christian.

Hart d. Valencia, 16-14, 15-5, 15-10--Leslie Ramos had nine kills for the Indians (5-2, 1-0) in a Foothill League match at Hart.

Saugus d. Burbank, 15-4, 15-8, 15-2--Heather Cessna had nine kills and Jennifer Bangasser collected eight for the Centurions (2-3, 1-0) in a Foothill League match at Saugus.

Royal d. Channel Islands, 15-3, 15-9, 15-5--Sherisa Livingston had 17 kills and 10 blocks and Annette Wilson had 10 digs for the visiting Highlanders (6-1, 4-1) in a Marmonte League match.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Buena 7, Dos Pueblos 5--Ian Prichard had three goals and Patrick Treanor had 10 saves for the Bulldogs (8-8, 2-0) in a Channel League game pitting two of last year’s tri-champions at Buena.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Granada Hills 6, Chatsworth 1--Kelley Takeshita and Michelle Heiser won singles matches by 8-0 scores for the Highlanders (5-0, 2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Chatsworth.

Camarillo 15, Westlake 3--The Scorpions (7-1, 5-0) won eight of nine singles matches in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Ventura 4, Moorpark 0--Joy Barry scored her eighth and ninth goals in a Western State Conference match at Moorpark.

The Pirates (12-2-1, 5-0-1), defending conference champions, scored twice in the first 12 minutes and have beaten Moorpark in the only three meetings in the series.

Ventura took 19 shots while Moorpark (5-5, 4-2) managed two.
