Bray’s Goal in 2nd Overtime Sparks Saddleback Past Mesa

Jim Bray scored a two-point goal in the second overtime to lead Saddleback to a 15-13 victory over visiting San Diego Mesa in Orange Empire Conference men’s water polo Wednesday.

Saddleback’s Jayson Gatzke sent the game into overtime after scoring with 2 minutes 20 seconds left in regulation.

Brian Weathersby scored two goals in the first overtime to give Saddleback a 13-11 lead. Shaun Souza had three goals to lead Saddleback and Carlos Gonzalez recorded 13 saves for the Gauchos (14-4, 4-1). San Diego Mesa is to 10-8, 3-2.

In Orange Empire conference women’s water polo:

Saddleback 11, San Diego Mesa 3--Brianna Foulds, Saddleback’s leading scorer with 49 goals, scored four in the victory. Aimee Piper had seven saves for Saddleback (8-8-1, 3-2). Mesa (4-12, 1-4) brought only seven players, the minimum number required to field a team.

Orange Coast 19, Santa Ana 5--Karen Helm scored three goals to lead Orange Coast (18-4-1, 4-1)--the fourth-ranked team in the state--to a victory over visiting Santa Ana.

In South Coast Conference women’s water polo:

Fullerton 19, East Los Angeles 5--Jill Schmidt led the Hornets with five goals as Fullerton improved to 11-7 (2-2).

Golden West 19, Mt. San Antonio 5--Lisa Saenz scored six goals to lead Golden West (22-0, 4-0).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Cypress 0--Defending state champion Golden West (7-0, 3-0), the top-ranked team in the state, defeated host Cypress (5-3, 1-2), 15-4, 15-2, 15-7. Mariah Marquis had 12 kills for the Rustlers.

Orange Coast 3, Fullerton 0--Keri Porter had nine kills in the 15-2, 16-14, 15-7 victory for Orange Coast (7-3, 2-1). Fullerton is 2-7, 0-3.

Saddleback 3, Santa Ana 0--Whitney Uhl had 18 kills for Saddleback, which won, 15-3, 15-4, 15-7. Saddleback, ranked third in the state, is 6-1, 2-1.
