Cal Lutheran Gets Its Kicks, 4-2
Cal Lutheran fell behind in the first three minutes but scored four consecutive goals and turned back Claremont-Mudd, 4-2, on Wednesday in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer match at Claremont.
The Kingsmen (12-2-1, 6-0 in conference play) were outshot, 25-14, but claimed sole possession of the SCIAC lead.
Edwin Astudillo scored at 27:57 to tie the score, 1-1, and Jeff Smilen scored the go-ahead goal at 51:39.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 4, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 1--Ashley Scott and Holly Roepke each scored two goals for the Regals in an SCIAC match at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran outshot the Athenas, 15-2, and clinched a share of their seventh consecutive SCIAC title.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Chaffey 10, Ventura 9--Chris Parrish scored four goals and David Ford added three for the Pirates in a Western State Conference match at Ventura.
Zack Finley tied the score, 9-9, for Ventura (21-7, 5-1) with 1:24 left. Chaffey (18-7, 6-0) scored the winning goal 19 seconds later.
Ventura goalie Curtis Tolmie had 11 saves.
Valley 12, Citrus 11--Jason Payne scored five goals and the Monarchs (17-7, 4-2) handed Citrus (18-6, 4-3) its first WSC loss at home in eight years.
