Troy’s Offense Is a Dud During 14-7 Loss to Buena Park

Share

Troy celebrated homecoming with fireworks Friday night, but the Warriors fizzled on the field as Buena Park made two first-half touchdowns stand up for a 14-7 victory at Fullerton High.

Brian McDonald rushed for 130 yards in 21 carries to lead Buena Park (2-5, 1-1). Adrian Vargas ran for 101 yards for Troy (3-4, 1-1).

Buena Park used an efficient running game and a stifling run defense to dominate the first half, outgaining Troy, 197-45, and picking up 13 first downs to Troy’s three.

The Coyotes opened the scoring on their second possession with a 13-play, 88-yard drive that was capped by quarterback Tony Alonzo’s one-yard keeper.

Buena Park made it 14-0 late in the second quarter on Jeremy Bulrice’s two-yard run.

Troy cut the lead to a touchdown early in the fourth quarter as Vargas rushed for 62 yards to set up Todd Frazier’s one-yard touchdown run.

The Warriors had a chance to pull even, but on a fourth-and-four play late in the game, quarterback Stephen Muther lost his footing while rolling out to his left, and Buena Park ran out the clock.
