Westlake May Have Lost Miller for the Season
WESTLAKE VILLAGE — The season may be over for Westlake High girls’ volleyball standout Courtney Miller.
A highly-recruited opposite hitter, Miller will have surgery next week to remove a bone fragment in her left foot.
The injury can be traced to Miller’s freshman year. She broke her foot during basketball season and it failed to heal properly.
Her foot bothered her recently and X-rays confirmed the fragment. Miller will be in a soft cast for up to four weeks and will undergo an estimated four weeks of physical therapy.
“If I’m going to return, it’s going to be late [in the season],” Miller said. “It really depends on how my rehab goes.”
The 6-foot-2 Miller was a key player on last season’s team, which lost to Santa Margarita in the Southern Section Division II-A championship game. The Warriors also advanced to the State playoff semifinals.
Miller is being recruited by several schools, including Stanford and Pepperdine. She was selected to the All-Southern Section team and Times’ All-Area team.
“Courtney will be missed, but because of our depth, we’ll be confident,” Westlake Coach Chris Rundle said. “We’ll be looking forward to when she’s capable of coming back.”
