Former Paramount Coach Dave Ek, a graduate of Cypress High, has been hired as boys’ basketball coach at La Habra, Highlanders Athletic Director Frank McCarroll said.
Ek, 38, replaces David vanBreemen, who resigned 10 days ago to accept the junior varsity coaching position at Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon. La Habra had a 7-16 record last season. Ek led Paramount to the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs in 1993 but has been out of coaching for several years, McCarroll said.

Marc Smith has resigned after three seasons as the boys’ soccer coach at El Dorado High to become an assistant at Loyola Marymount, El Dorado boys’ Athletic Director Carl Sweet said.
