Tennessee Fan Sends a John Deere Letter

I am one of the thousands of Tennesseans who just returned home after watching the Volunteers play UCLA at the Rose Bowl. Without exception, the Bruin fans we met were gracious hosts.

However, I was offended by a remark made by Chris Dufresne in his “Slice of the Southland” column in Sunday’s Times. Mr. Dufresne stated that he left the stadium early to “beat the Orange crush of Tennessee fans back to their tractors.” I’m sure Mr. Dufresne didn’t intend to offend any of us. He probably assumed we never had time to learn to read, what with all that plowing and moonshine making.

However, I have more news for Mr. Dufresne: I’ve lived in Tennessee all of my 35 years. Not only did I not drive a tractor to the game, I’ve never been on a tractor in my life.

Chris Dufresne’s biggest mistake was not leaving the UCLA-Tennessee game way too early, but rather his flawed path from the Rose Bowl to the Coliseum.

Chris, next time take the 134 West to the 2 South to the 5 South, completely bypassing the 110 and heading about two miles out of the way to the 10 West back toward downtown, exiting at Los Angeles Street. A quick left on Hill found zero traffic all the way to Exposition, and we only missed the first three plays of the SC-FSU game.
