Walker in Front, Burbank Wins

James Walker of Burbank High led the Bulldogs to a sweep of the top five places in the Burbank All-City Meet with a time of 16:33 on the 2.9-mile Griffith Park cross-country course on Wednesday.
Walker was followed by John Harley in 16:41, Julio Aleman in 16:50, Irving Reyes in 16:58 and Tommy Harley in 17:01 as the Bulldogs captured their sixth consecutive meet championship with 15 points.
Burroughs was second with 62 points, followed by Providence at 68 and Bell-Jeff with 109 points.
In the girls’ race, Kim Lorimer clocked 21:02 to lead Burbank to the meet championship with 19 points, followed by teammates Christina Blair in 21:46 and Lisa Mendez in 22:34. Molly Raine of Burbank was fifth in 23:14.
Jenifer Jenkins of Bell-Jeff finished fourth in 23:02.
Burroughs was second with 60 points, Providence was third with 74, and Bell-Jeff had 89 points.
Notre Dame 15, Chaminade 44--Kevin Lellis finished the three-mile course at Pierce College in 17:07 for the Knights in a Mission League opener. Larry Pitkin of Notre Dame was second in 17:30.
GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY
Notre Dame 15, Chaminade 50--Andrea Rosas timed 20:30 over the three-mile course for the Knights (1-0, 1-0) in a Mission League meet at Pierce College.
Cassandra Goodson of Chaminade (20:52) finished second in 20:52.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Palisades 6, Westlake 1--Anna Zimmerman and Lauren Guess defeated Anna Loenov and Judy Len, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 3 doubles, but the Warriors (0-2) lost at Riviera Country Club.
The match was played in the City Section’s two-set format rather than the Southern Section’s round-robin because it was a home match for Palisades (2-1), defending City Section 4-A champion.
Buena 17, Newbury Park 1--Yas Fisher, Danielle Sesmeth and Bev Haro swept in singles for the Bulldogs at Newbury Park (0-2).
Simi Valley 16, Thacher 2--Mindy Gondrez did not lose a game, going 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 in three sets at No. 1 singles for the Pioneers (3-0) in a nonleague match at Thacher (0-1).
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Saugus d. Quartz Hill, 15-4, 15-8, 15-8--Sarah Wilkin and Katie Preston each had six kills and Jamie Bolt had four aces for the Centurions (1-1).
Milken d. L.A. Lutheran, 14-16, 15-3, 15-4, 15-6--Monique Soudry had 14 kills and four aces for the Wildcats (4-1) at L.A. Lutheran.
Viewpoint d. Montclair Prep, 15-10, 15-1, 15-10--Starr Silver had seven kills for the Patriots (4-1) at Montclair Prep.
St. Bonaventure d. Santa Clara, 15-9, 15-5, 15-5--Kristin Jones had five kills for the Seraphs (1-0), who had eight aces and 10 team blocks at Santa Clara.
