Wasserman, Westlake Roll to 29-0 Victory
WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Zac Wasserman completed 13 of 19 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns to lead Westlake High to a 29-0 victory over Ventura on Friday night at Westlake High.
Joey Cuppari caught all three Wasserman touchdown passes on receptions of 53, 79 and three yards. Cuppari finished with eight catches for 182 yards.
“We needed to open up the run first,” Cuppari said after the victory that improved the Warriors to 1-1. “Once we did, the passing game clicked and we were able to be successful.”
The Warrior defense dominated the game, allowing the Cougars (1-1) only 131 yards.
Westlake had three interceptions and forced four fumbles, recovering three.
“We beat a tough team tonight,” Westlake Coach Jim Benkert said. “We’re going to get better each week, and hopefully be the good team that everyone thinks we will be.”
Kevin Howard opened the scoring in the first quarter when he intercepted a tipped Jason Branch pass and returned it 62 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown.
