County Divers to Compete in Senior National Competition

Erica Sorgi of Mission Viejo is among a contingent of county divers set to participate in the Senior National Diving preliminary competition today through Sunday in Federal Way, Wash.

The top five competitors in each event qualify for the Senior National Championships, April 13-19 in Indianapolis.

Sorgi, who already has qualified for the Senior Nationals in two events, will dive in the 10-meter platform competition in hopes of qualifying in a third event.

Among the county’s divers competing this weekend:

Mission Viejo Nadadores--Chrissie Amorosia, Carly Banks, Erica Healey, Tiffany Manning, Jennifer McNally, Tammy Pace, J.P. Palmer, Rachelle Routsong, Sorgi and Ray Vincent; L’equipe Diving Club of Irvine--Lee Brennen and Kim Stanfield; Crown Valley Diving Club--Michelle Brown. Trojan Diving Club--Kristen Marquis.

The biggest race in what is expected to be a record-setting harness meet at Los Alamitos Race Course will be run tonigh, as Little Steven and Hi Ho Silverheels are expected to contend for the title of the $100,000 Arnold Pacing Series.

Jockey Jim Lewis has been transferred from Loma Linda University Medical Center to a trauma rehabilitation facility in Long Beach, Los Alamitos Race Course spokesman Orlando Gutierrez said Thursday.

Lewis sustained head and other unspecified injuries March 24 when the horse he was riding threw him during a training ride in Temecula.

The U.S. women’s national soccer team will play an exhibition game against Argentina April 24 at Cal State Fullerton.

Tickets for the game, which begins at 7:30 p.m., can be purchased through the Mission Viejo Soccer Foundation at the Soccer Post, across from the World Cup Training Center, on La Paz Road or at San Clemente Sports, 415 Avenida Pico.
