Tuttle Leads Villa Park to Victory

Sophomore Jeff Tuttle hit a three-run homer in the first inning to lead Villa Park to a 3-2 victory over Diamond Bar in a semifinals of the Santa Ana Elks baseball tournament Tuesday.

Rob McConchie went the distance for the Spartans (6-9), striking out five. Villa Park will play Pacifica in the championship game at 3 p.m. today.

In the other semifinal:

Pacifica 4, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 2--Phil Cardon’s three-run triple in the third inning put Pacifica (10-6) into the finals.

In the National Classic tournament:

No. 6 Santa Margarita 10, Paradise Ridge (Ky.) 2--Casey Grzecka had two hits and three runs batted in for Santa Margarita (13-3) in the second-round game.

In the Charlie Rose West Coast Classic:

Fountain Valley 13, Mountain View St. Francis 9--Luke Branch scored three runs and drove in two for Fountain Valley (10-5) in the first round at San Jose. St. Francis is 11-3.

In the Paso Robles tournament:

Dana Hills 10, Beverly Hills 0 (5, mercy rule)--Chris Weber had three hits, including a RBI triple.

In the Pride of the Coast Tournament:

Corona del Mar 7, Orange Lutheran 0--Ryan Lewis pitched a two-hitter for the host Sea Kings (7-7). Lewis (2-3) struck out 14 and walked none.

Costa Mesa 4, Bolsa Grande 2 (8)--Chris DeSandro singled to score Nick Lambert with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to lift Costa Mesa (6-9). Josh Little pitched the final three innings to earn the victory and also hit his second home run in as many games for the Mustangs (6-9).

San Clemente 14, Newport Harbor 6--Ben Adair hit two home runs to lead the Tritons (5-10) at Newport Harbor.

Adair hit a grand slam in an eight-run fourth inning and a two-run homer in the seventh. He was three for four, scored three runs and drove in six. Newport Harbor is 5-11.

In nonleague golf:

Los Alamitos 410, No. 7 Sunny Hills 415--Ken Kato shot a four-over-par 76 to lead Los Alamitos at Los Coyotes and Old Ranch. Randy Miller shot a 74 for Sunny Hills (5-5-1).

In Freeway League softball:

Troy 1, Sonora 0 (11)--Lisa Jackson’s single scored Elaine Kennedy with one out in the 11th inning for Troy (12-4, 1-0). Starter Lindsey Knoff gave up one hit.

Valencia 1, Magnolia 0--Freshman Kim Miller scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for Valencia (9-10, 0-1). Miller led off the inning with a single, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a groundout by catcher Annie Dedic. Aubrey Zamora (6-4) pitched a one-hitter over six innings, striking out nine.

In the Santa Maria Righetti tournament:

No. 1 Foothill 3, Palos Verdes Peninsula 0 (11)--Two squeeze plays by Jamie Clark and Lindsey Fossatti in a tiebreaker, scored three runs for Foothill (15-1) advancing the Knights to the semifinals. Foothill will play Simi Valley today at 1 p.m.

In nonleague softball:

Whittier Christian 4, Santiago 2--Jodi Alessi doubled for the second time in the game in the sixth inning and later scored the go-ahead run for Whittier Christian (7-8).

In Century League boys’ tennis:

Canyon 10, Villa Park 8--Mike Chen and Azad Rad didn’t lose a game in doubles for second-place Canyon (7-5, 3-1). Kevin Saman and Travis Kula also swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, for the visiting Comanches.

Chris Tibbetts swept, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, in singles for Villa Park (3-2 in league).

Orange 9, El Modena 9 (Orange wins on games 81-80)--Trailing after the second round, 8-4, Orange (9-5, 1-2) rallied to win five of the final six sets. Junior Angel Ochoa swept for the Tigers at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1.

In the Freeway League:

No. 5 Sunny Hills 12, Troy 6--Sunny Hills (9-2, 4-0) didn’t lose a game in doubles. Seniors Tuji Chang and John Choi won, 6-1, 6-0, 7-5. Francisco Villaroman won in singles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-3. Troy is 10-2, 3-1.

In Century League boys’ track and field:

Canyon 71, Orange 51--Junior Chris Jackson won the high jump (5 feet 8 inches) and was second in the long jump (19-1 1/4) and triple jump (40-4) to lead Canyon (1-2).

In the Orange League:

Magnolia 77 1/2, Western 52 1/2--Jeremiah Faatili won the discus with a throw of 157-3 for Magnolia (1-1 in league).

In Century League girls’ track and field:

Canyon 83, Orange 37--Joey Tilocco won the 100 hurdles (18.5 seconds), the 300 hurdles (57.1), the high jump (4-4) and ran on the winning 400 relay (53.5) to lead Canyon (1-1). Teammate Estelle Naito won the triple jump (29-11) and the pole vault (7-0).

Sunny Hills 96, La Habra 31--Shanda Dixon jumped a county-best 38-9 3/4 in the triple jump for Sunny Hills (2-0).
