Infante Flirts With No-Hitter

Freshman pitcher Gilbert Infante of St. Bonaventure High lost a bid for a no-hitter by allowing two hits in the seventh inning of the Seraphs’ 3-1 Tri-Valley League victory over Oak Park on Monday at Oak Park.

Richie Johnson opened the inning with a single and Jeff Roberts doubled to score Johnson for the Eagles (6-7, 1-2 in league play).

But Infante (3-1) responded with the final two of his seven strikeouts and a game-ending groundout. Infante issued two walks.

Zach Gallagher had a run-scoring single and a run-scoring groundout for St. Bonaventure (6-8, 4-1).

Calabasas 1, Santa Paula 0--Matt Jackson (2-5) threw a two-hitter, striking out four for the Coyotes (6-10, 4-3) in the Frontier League game at Calabasas.

It was the second two-hitter of the season for Jackson, who is 14-5 over the last three seasons.

Mark Wilson scored from second on an error in the first inning.

Moorpark 8, Nordhoff 1--Justin Tolliver had three hits and Sean Best had two hits, including a two-run home run to spark a six-run sixth inning for the Musketeers in a Frontier League game at Moorpark.

Taylor Slimak also had two hits for Moorpark.

Van Nuys 10, Canoga Park 0--Jose Avila and Jose Jimenez each had three hits for visiting Van Nuys (8-10, 3-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Lanark Park.

Avila scored three runs and drove in one, and Jimenez drove in two runs and pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Luis Valencia had a double for Canoga Park (0-12, 0-8).

North Hollywood 9, Grant 7--Jerrit Redlich hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to lift North Hollywood (12-7, 8-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

Felipe Tetelboin doubled and tripled for Grant (5-13, 4-5), driving in one run and scoring one run.

Monroe 6, Reseda 2--Senior right-hander John Ennis pitched a six-hitter and struck out 12 for Monroe (8-10, 3-6) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.

Ennis (4-3) doubled and Jose Alamilla had two hits for Reseda (8-10, 0-9).

Grace Brethren 16, First Lutheran 2--Freshman Danny Buckley (2-0) struck out 13 while pitching a three-hitter for Grace Brethren (9-2, 2-0) in a Heritage League game at First Lutheran.

Tim Thompson had a two-run double and a run-scoring single, and Jackson Beauchamp had a two-run single and a run-scoring double for the Lancers.
