Lohnnie Tape of Santa Ana College has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Arizona State. The 6-foot-7 forward was the Orange Empire Conference player of the year last season and was named to the all-state team. The Esperanza graduate averaged 23.6 points and 8.1 rebounds last season for the conference champion Dons.

Miscellany

C.T. Taylor had a score of 24.25 on three waves to win Round 5 of the surfing trials at the Surf Tour Body Glove Surfbout XI at Lower Trestles. Taylor advanced to today’s main-event round that includes former world champion Tom Curren of Laguna Niguel and San Clemente’s Shane Beschen.

Rochelle Ballard of Hawaii advanced in the Wahine event.
