Interim Head Named at Boys & Girls Club

Jim Soto, Placentia’s director of Recreation and Human Services, will be interim executive director at the local Boys & Girls Club while a search for a permanent leader takes place.

The club’s board of directors announced Friday that it has begun a three-month search process to fill the position. Ruben Alvarez Jr. resigned from the post in July for other job prospects.

Board President Adolfo Arce said Soto’s experience and qualifications make him the ideal person for the temporary job. As part of his regular city duties, Soto will assist the club with the day-to-day operations during the search process, City Administrator Robert D’Amato said.

“The city understands the importance of maintaining a positive place in the community for children,” D’Amato said. “Jim has devoted his career to helping children realize their potential, and I can’t think of a better person to assist the club in finding a permanent executive director.”

The board is expected to select a new executive director by early November. A timeline on the search process will be considered by board members at their Aug. 10 meeting.
