From Staff Reports

Robert Radnoti has been hired as the boys’ and girls’ cross-country coach at Thousand Oaks High.

Radnoti, 40, replaces Jack Farrell, who stepped down in June after 20 seasons at the school.

Farrell was regarded as one of the top high school cross-country coaches in the state after leading the Thousand Oaks boys to state Division I titles in 1993 and ‘94, and to Southern Section titles at either the Division I or 4-A level in 1980, ‘84, ‘86, ‘92, ’93 and ’94.

“I’m excited about it,” Radnoti said. “This is the stuff I dream about.”

Although Radnoti has no experience coaching high school cross-country runners, he has been a runner for most of his life.

He helped Colorado win Big Eight Conference cross-country titles from 1976-79 and he founded the U.S. Corporate Athletic Assn. in 1984.

He has been a chemical engineer at Exxon for the last 17 1/2 years, but will resign that position in two weeks in order to focus on coaching.

“I really wanted to be able to do this and put my whole heart into this,” Radnoti said.

“I have a lot of confidence in myself and I want to take [this program] to an even higher level.”
