El Dorado Defeats Aliso Niguel

Brad Onishi made two free throws with three seconds left in the game Monday to clinch El Dorado’s 59-56 boys’ basketball victory over Aliso Niguel in pool play of the Gary Raya Co-Ed Classic at El Dorado High.

Aliso Niguel was leading, 49-42, late in the fourth quarter, but El Dorado scored the next 11 points to take a 53-49 lead. Ryan Carlos scored a game-high 22 points for El Dorado (4-3). Robert Deven had 20 for Aliso Niguel (3-4).

In the Bob Osborne Classic:

Foothill 95, Fairmont 22--Ryan Evans scored 11 points as Foothill scored 32 in the first quarter. Chad Bigler scored 17 points and Drew Buford had 10 points and 17 assists to lead the Knights (5-1).

In the Troy Courtside Clash:

Whittier Christian 83, Torrance 63--Kyle Streeter and Jon Stoa scored 24 and 23 points, respectively, to lead Whittier Christian (4-3) in pool play.

In the Gary Raya girls’ basketball tournament:

Canyon 46, Moreno Valley 43--Canyon rallied from a 13-6 first quarter deficit to tie the score 24-24 at halftime. The Comanches went on a 14-7 run in the third and held the lead throughout the fourth quarter in the pool-play game. Megan O’Neill scored 14 points to lead Canyon (4-3).

Valencia 38, Corona 34--Valencia’s final four points were from the foul line. Sara Ludwig led the Tigers with 14 points and made eight of 10 free throws.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Mater Dei 58, Sonora 50--Kristine Kirkpatrick and Lindsay Pavlik each scored 12 points for host Mater Dei (5-1). Sonora is 4-4.

In the Long Beach Millikan boys’ soccer tournament:

Trabuco Hills 1, Ventura Buena 0--Paul Kiner scored in the 19th minute off an assist from Doug Patterson. Jay Arnston made two saves and Jason Mooneyham made six for the shutout.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Fullerton 4, Bolsa Grande 2--Noe Nava scored his second goal of the game in the 54th minute to break a 2-2 tie for Fullerton.

University 2, Century 1--Matt Murray made three point-blank saves in the last three minutes of the game for University. He made nine saves in the game.

Woodbridge 1, Santa Ana 0--Senior Doug Allan got his sixth shutout of the season and his 52nd of his high school career. Mark Oehlman, with an assist by Kevin Friedland, scored midway through the first half for Woodbridge (6-0).

In the La Serna girls’ soccer tournament:

Laguna Hills 0, Pacifica 0 (Laguna Hills wins shootout, 5-4)--Kim Lanier scored the winner after Jamie Lautenschlager stopped Pacifica’s fifth shot.

In the Magnolia tournament:

Laguna Beach 4, Cerritos 1--Samantha Ames scored two goals and Rosie Dobbs and Brynne Yamamoto had one each for Laguna Beach (4-1).

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

Costa Mesa 2, Westminster 1--Fernanda Velasco scored the game-winner for Costa Mesa (4-3) after teammate Nicole Jankowski scored in the first 10 seconds of the game.

El Modena 1, San Clemente 1--Vicki Bloom scored on a breakaway in the 65th minute to tie the score for El Modena (3-2-1).
