So much for the reputation as a finesse team.

In its 86-71 victory Friday night over Citrus in the semifinals of the Glendale tournament, the Glendale College men’s basketball team showed it can get physical as well.

Burly forward Steve Eernisse and center Louis Fernandez demonstrated how difficult it will be to push around the Vaqueros this season.

Eernisse scored 26 points, most from underneath the basket, and grabbed 13 rebounds and Fernandez had 17 points and nine rebounds.

That should give the Vaqueros (9-3), ranked No. 17 in the state, plenty of support when they face physical Bakersfield in the championship game at 7 tonight.

Glendale complemented its inside game with the floor leadership of guard Tony Hoggatts, who finished with 17 points and nine assists.

Bakersfield 76, Canyons 55--After a surprising victory over L.A. City College on Thursday night in the first round, the Cougars (7-7) were no match for Bakersfield in the semifinals.

With Shawn Daniels and Drew Hill dominating inside, the Renegades (11-2) built an eight-point lead early in the game and didn’t look back. Daniels and Hill each finished with 21 points.
