Newbury Park Completes Perfect Marmonte Run

Daniel Bobik had 32 points, eight rebounds and six assists to pace visiting Newbury Park High to a 73-52 victory over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League boys’ basketball game Friday night at Thousand Oaks.

Bobik, who had five dunks, scored 13 points in the first quarter to help Newbury Park (23-4, 14-0 in league) take a 20-9 lead.

It was the Panthers’ 13th consecutive victory and made them the first Marmonte team to go undefeated in league play since Thousand Oaks during the 1992-93 season.

Brian Bobik, Daniel’s brother, had 14 points for Newbury Park, the No. 2-ranked team in the region.

Bas Van Rhee scored 16 points for Thousand Oaks (8-16, 5-8).

Westlake 61, Agoura 46--Joey Cuppari scored 28 points to pace the Warriors (14-10, 6-8) in a Marmonte League game against Agoura (13-11, 7-7) at Westlake.

Simi Valley 92, Royal 56--Brett Mitchel scored 28 points and Ian Boys added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Pioneers (22-5, 11-3) in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.

Branduinn Fullove scored 16 points for the No. 4-ranked Pioneers.

Cam Dixon had 13 points for Royal (7-8, 2-12).

Chaminade 84, St. Francis 47--Justin Stewart scored 12 points and Scott Borchart had 10 for the No. 1-ranked Eagles in the Mission League victory at Chaminade.

Chaminade (23-1, 12-0) has won 20 consecutive games.

Chaminade’s lone loss came to Simi Valley in the championship game of the Simi Valley tournament.

San Fernando 72, Granada Hills 63--Devin Montgomery and Mike Page each scored 20 for the Tigers (23-2, 10-0) in a North Valley League game at San Fernando.

Scott Neumann scored 17 for Granada Hills (8-14, 3-7).

Taft 66, Chatsworth 57--Harold Shevlin scored 19 points and Eric Alvarez had 12 to help the Toreadors (15-5, 8-2) win a West Valley League game at Taft.

Brandyn Fisher had eight points and 13 rebounds to help the No. 10-ranked Toreadors win their fourth consecutive game.

Richard Harrison scored 17 points for Chatsworth (14-10, 5-5).

Verdugo Hills 63, Verdugo Hills 55--Kevin Baird had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Harmik Hartounian added 13 points for Verdugo Hills (11-14, 7-7) in a Northern Conference game at Franklin.

Santa Paula 89, Calabasas 58--David Herrera had 32 points, including seven three-pointers, for the Cardinals (20-5, 9-1) in a Frontier League game at Santa Paula.

The victory clinched sole possession of the league title for the Cardinals.

Moorpark 75, Nordhoff 66--Kevin Lawrence had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Keith Donahue had 23 points for the Musketeers (21-6, 8-2) in a Frontier League victory at Moorpark.

Paraclete 75, Kern Valley 58--Josh Foster had 19 points and eight rebounds, and Peter Cich had 14 points and seven rebounds and the host Spirits (5-16, 4-6) closed out their tenure in the High Desert League with a victory.

Paraclete will join the Alpha League in the fall.

Santa Clara 76, Malibu 57--Ryan McGill had 26 points and 12 rebounds, B.J. Ward contributed 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, and Scott Sorich added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints (10-12, 4-6) in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.

Monroe 97, Canoga Park 94--Damian Ritter made all nine of his free throws and finished with 27 points and 11 assists for the Vikings (7-15, 4-6) in an East Valley League victory at Monroe.

Sylmar 79, Van Nuys 54--T.K. Reed had 20 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and six steals for the Mid-Valley League-champion Spartans in a victory at Sylmar.

Harvard-Westlake 73, Crespi 67--Russell Lakey had 26 points and five steals for the Wolverines (19-7, 7-5) in a Mission League victory at Harvard-Westlake.

The Wolverines, who clinched third place, made 21 of 25 free throws, including 11 of 11 in the fourth quarter.

Mirtis Ducksworth scored 16 and Blake Tibbetts had 15 points for the Celts (12-13, 5-7).

Oak Park 64, Fillmore 45--Greg Jones scored 29 points, including 20 in the second half, and John Murphy had 23 points and 18 rebounds for the Eagles (14-9, 6-2) in the Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park.

The victory clinched second place in the league for Oak Park.

L.A. Baptist 63, Maranatha 45--Frank Vasquez made eight three-point baskets en route to 35 points for L.A. Baptist (11-12, 5-5) in a playoff for the third and final postseason berth in the Alpha League.

Cleveland 84, Kennedy 69--Kent Dennis scored 23 points and Brian Smith had 19 points for Cleveland (16-9, 6-4) in a West Valley League game.

Palmdale 104, Highland 74--Kerry Yates scored 32 points for the victorious Falcons (16-9, 7-3) in a Golden League game at Palmdale.

It marked the first time that Palmdale has scored at least 100 points in four years.

Wendell Bonner scored 23 points and Huberto Zamora added 20 points for Highland (8-16, 4-6).

Antelope Valley 71, Lancaster 53--Josh Speaks scored 15 points and Roger Price added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Antelope Valley (18-8, 8-2) in a Golden League game.

The victory clinched the league title for Antelope Valley, its second straight under Coach Tom Mahan.

Providence 54, Holy Martyrs 39--Dickran Tashdjian scored 14 points for Providence (13-9, 8-6) in a Liberty League game at Holy Martyrs. Shant Choulakian scored 21 points to Holy Martyrs (13-9, 7-6).

Valley Torah 84, Coutin 26--Matt Rosenblatt had 15 of his team-high 23 points in a 46-point third quarter for Valley Torah (17-3, 11-1) in a Valley League game at Balboa Park.

The Wolfpack’s third-period total tied for the second-highest number of points scored in a quarter by a Southern Section team.

Farzan Voosaghi had 19 points and seven assists and Mike Zaghi added 15 points for Valley Torah.

Mammoth 61, Vasquez 53--Mike Howard had 15 points for Mammoth (7-3 in league) in a Desert Mountain game at Highland High.

J.R. Faquir had 17 points for Vasquez (3-16, 1-9). Kenny Johnson had eight rebounds.
