Eight girls’ basketball teams from the region began the season with lengthy league winning streaks.

Five of those streaks have survived.

Palmdale High became the third team to be stopped, losing, 54-29, to Highland last week, its Golden League streak ended at 39 games.

Village Christian entered the season with a region-best 56-game league winning streak but fell, 52-44, to L.A. Baptist in its Alpha League opener on Jan. 13. The Crusaders avenged that loss a week ago by beating L.A. Baptist in a third-place playoff to determine the league’s final postseason berth.
