Zamiro Bennem

Magnolia, Senior; Basketball/Guard

Bennem, who has orally committed to UC Irvine, helped Orange League champion Magnolia advance in the first round of the Southern Section Division III-AA playoffs, scoring 30 points with four assists in a 70-45 victory over Brawley. Bennem became the school’s all-time leading scorer and broke the school’s single-season assist record.

Julian Gaitan/Soccer/Forward

* El Toro, junior. Scored two game-winning goals, both in overtime, in playoff victories over Santa Ana Valley, 2-1, and Esperanza, 2-1.

Brian Masumoto/Wrestling

* Fountain Valley, senior. Won the section Division II title at 119 pounds, defeating Newport Harbor’s Rigo Pinon in overtime, 5-3.

Mike Simpson/Wrestling

* Brethren Christian, sophomore. Won the section Division I title at 105 pounds, defeating Calvary Chapel’s Steve Esparza in overtime, 4-2.
